Appliances that Can Cause Damage

Water Damage from Appliances It's all nice until your appliances turn on you!

Appliances that are most likely to cause a water damage

Water Damage is most common during a storm situation or a broken pipe. One thing to keep in mind however malfunctions from appliances often happen as well. Pipe bursts or leaks as well as just common appliance mishaps can cause just as much if not more damage.

Hot Water Heater

Any sort of break or leak in a hot water heater can cause major damage. Performing yearly maintenance or check ups may seem costly or inconvenience, but that can be far less than cleaning up the flooding afterwards. If at any time you notice leaking from around the water heater, make sure you contact a repair company quickly. The sooner the issue is mitigated, the less damage you will need to repair.

Air Conditioners

Air Conditioners typically are located outside the home. Most homeowners/renters don’t feel like water damage can occur from them. However-a window unit or a unit that runs through a humidifier in the home can cause a water issue. Attic air conditioners can run the largest chance of becoming a water damage hazard. Keep an eye out for moisture and leaks and notify a professional to repair as soon as possible.

Washing Machine

Washing Machines hold a large amount of water, sometimes several times a day. Hoses typically are the largest source of water damage associated with washing machines. However, modern front load washing machines introduce another complication. Front door gaskets can get worn out and rip-causing water to flow out. Make sure your gasket and hose are in good shape with regular checkup. You will also want to watch out for clogged drains, this will cause the machine to not unload properly, causing an overflow issue.

Refrigerator

Leaky refrigerators are really an issue and can be a slower problem to address. Problems with the fridge could mean an issue with food inside as well as water damage. This is typically caused when a water line is either frozen or clogged in the defrost drain. Be sure to check your fridge on a regular basis to make sure the temperatures are right and you have no water coming out.

Dishwasher

The Dishwasher is a large cause of issues at the home. Drains, hoses and other connections can fail-leading to damage.

The older any of these appliances are, the more likely there will be function failures. Be sure to be aware of what state they are all in and check for damage. Life does happen and if you see an issue with any of these-contact SERVPRO of Bloomington/Pontiac. We can walk you trough what needs to be done and what we can do to help you get your home back in order. Don’t wait to get help. The longer water is allowed to sit, the more time it has to spread and cause more costly damage.
